TBR Book Tag!

I want to start doing more tag posts because I think they're really fun and they're a good way to get to know the person behind the blog. I came across this TBR (to be read) tag on booktube and although I wasn't tagged by anyone, I'm going to do it anyway.

*I believe this is the original post here that booktubers got the idea from.

So the first question is...

How do you keep track of your TBR pile?

I have an Amazon wishlist with the books I just want to read, but I use my Goodreads want-to-read shelf to keep track of the unread books I physically own. If you're curious to see what those books are, I'll link it here. I also have a spreadsheet where I track additional information about each book, such as, where and when I got the book, the format it's in, it's genre, and whether it is a part of a series or a standalone.

Is your TBR mostly print or ebook?

Print. I don't actually buy ebooks. The only time I read ebooks is if I can download them from my local library through the OverDrive app.

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?

I'm pretty weird when it comes to my TBR. I plan out each month a few months in advance (a bit extra, I know) and I base that on books I want to read for different challenges I'm doing that year, physical TBR books I want to get to, etc. I rarely veer off course, but occasionally I'll pick up a book I hadn't planned to if I feel a strong interest in reading it.

A book that's been on your TBR list the longest?

This one would be Lizzie Borden: The Legend, the Truth, the Final Chapter by Arnold Brown. I've had this since roughly 2009. I was in the seventh grade and I had to write a book report on someone famous for my English class. Me being me, I asked if I could write it on someone infamous. So I decided to do mine on a serial killer, I was (and still am) very into true crime. My mom surprised me one day with 4 or so books on different serial killers for my report and this book on Lizzie Borden was one of them. I've had it for a ridiculously long time and as it's the last one unread of those 4 she got that day, I plan to finally read it this year.

A book you recently added to your TBR?

My most recently bought book is The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead. I happened to see this while I was out and since I'm planning on reading it in April, I decided to buy my own copy instead of putting an ebook edition on hold at the library and having to wait for it.

A book on your TBR strictly because of its beautiful cover?

I'm not someone who typically 'cover buys', but I absolutely love this cover. When I bought it I had no idea what it was about (still don't) and didn't really care (again, still don't).

A book on your TBR that you never plan on reading?

Of course, I plan on reading all the books on my TBR. If I had to choose one I'm not likely to read anytime soon though, I would say it's The Jungle by Upton Sinclair. I started reading this a couple years ago and put it back down because it was...not particularly interesting. I will read this eventually, but definitely not this year.

An unpublished book on your TBR that you're excited for?

Becoming by Michelle Obama. I only recently found out that she was publishing a book and when I saw that I got soo excited, and then sad because it won't be released until November 13th of this year. Michelle Obama is a woman I admire so much, and I can't wait to read her memoir.

A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you?

I don't actually know anyone else who reads, so literally no one recommends books to *me*, but a book on my TBR that I see people recommend in general a lot would probably be A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. Everyone I've seen mention this book, and series, has talked about how much they love it and how each sequel gets better and better.

A book on your TBR that basically everyone's read but you?

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. For whatever reason, I still have not read this, though I plan to later this year. All I know about this is that it's a gothic romance and it's wildly popular. Hopefully, the hype doesn't disappoint me for this one.

A book on your TBR that you're dying to read?

Ohmygod. The Black Prism by Brent Weeks. I have only ever heard the best things about this book. I have been wanting to read it so bad since I bought it almost two years ago, but because of it's size and the fact that it's fantasy, I have continuously put it off. I always tell myself that I'll read books like that (you know, the ones that require full immersion) when I have time to dedicate to it, but the thing is, I never have that kind of time. So this year I've decided to make time for it because I. Can. Not. Wait. any longer.

How many books are on your TBR shelf?

I have a grand total of 64 books on my TBR. I'm hoping to reduce that number by more than half by the end of this year. But we'll see how that goes.
